Cadillac has unveiled a new 415kW V8 coupe that may eventually be seen in Australia
It's still uncertain when the Cadillac brand will be reintroduced to Australia after last year's aborted attempt, but, if it returns, buyers might be tempted by this new American rival for the BMW M3.
The CTS-V Coupe debuts at next week's Detroit motor show and is a high-performance version of the Cadillac CTS two-door unveiled last year.
Power (415kW) comes from a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 also used in the CTS-V sedan, with gearbox choices comprising a six-speed manual and six-speed auto.
Stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo performance brakes, while the suspension features magnetically adjustable dampers.
The range-topping Coupe also gains V-series design cues such as a bonnet bulge, 19-inch alloy wheels and a double grille that doubles the volume of air the car can swallow.
The CTS-V goes on sale in North America later this year, carrying a price tag of about US$64,000 ($70,000).
Design Homes
This house doesn’t end with just the house, tho. Check out this eating area just in front of the house, beyond the roadway entrance. Eating on this secluded patio is definitely a dream!
Next up is this rancher that was secluded up in the woods, about 1/4 mile from the lakefront. This house is huge (we’re guessing 5000 square feet of finished space), and blends with the surroundings. We particularly liked that the community preserves the woods around the trees, only allowing enough to be cut to erect the actual building.
Coming around one of the corners is this vacation-landscaped dream (look Ma, no grass!) The deck sprawls across the whole front of the house and the windows stretch up to the peak (a common design in lake front communities these days.) Underneath the decks are a front-of-the-house stone patio that offers great shade.
Please All Your Senses
Having a house that looks great is a such a very important thing for a large number of people. However, for most people, the a great looking house is a way to show off to the neighbours and gain bragging rights to owning the best looking piece of property.
Synn Architekten have designed a house in Vienna and the house surprisingly faces he garden instead of the street. Although the house has an entrance from the street, all the rooms of the house are designed as to highlight the importance of the garden (much like most people decorate their living room with the television as the centrepiece). The house, built on three different levesl all of which are connected by a main ‘spine’, is titled Haus Elise.
Haus Elise has been designed in this manner as a way to grant the occupants maximum privacy and also highlight the importance of the inhabitant family’s interactions as opposed to the world outside the house. The rooms are constantly lit up with natural lighting because of the wide windows and the house has been aesthetically decorated. The ambience of Haus Elise truly offers a beautiful experience for whoever lives there.
Modern Paved Urban Garden
Like many urban gardens, this one is L-shaped, which means not only is the side return often too small to do anything meaningful with, but also that the view from within the house into the side return is often quite bland (or of the neighbouring house). This design combats these problems firstly with a white painted wall. The wall reflects light back into the house, provides privacy and a backdrop for the architectural planting in front. Also, the shallow nature of the border in front of the wall means that the side return is uncluttered and therefore spacious enough to provide a sheltered seating area or place for children to play.
Best-Looking Kit Houses
In Britain when it comes to prefabs we've been pretty slow on the uptake, but as the German Huf House Grand Design shows, it's a very different story in other countries. Nowhere is that more so than in California. In LA they've been pushing the boundaries of kit house design since the 1940s.
Pictured here is the Stahl House, one of 36 prototype homes designed as part of The Case Study House Programme. Built after the Second World War, these kit homes have been an inspiration ever since.
After the war a pioneering group of architects and their clients in California set about trying to work out how they could make modern, up-to-date accommodation using the latest types of technology that really engaged with nature. They were looking at how a house could be reinvented for its specific landscape and the Stahl House epitomizes this approach.
What was revolutionary about these designs was the use of commercial building materials and techniques, an ethos taken up by the owners of the Bristol Modernist Grand Design. It made it possible to build beautiful homes on a budget. It also gave birth to some of the most iconic houses of the twentieth century. But what makes this kit house design so iconic?
'I think just the difference of the way looks, the dramatic entry, the corner of the house hanging over the mountain - these aren't normal construction traits that you see on a normal house', says Bruce Stahl, owner of the famous Stahl House. 'And because of its iconic status it's still inspiring that people perceive it as very contemporary, cutting edge architecture.'
50 years on, we crave many of the techniques these houses championed. Who doesn't love the expanses of glass, simple open plan living, and good design?
LA is a town of celebrity and the Stahl House is an undoubted star. The utter simplicity of construction, the modest materials and the dramatic site make this house as exciting now as it was when it was when first built way back in the 1950s.

World’s Most Expensive Diamond Pen
Blame us for reporting on it, or its manufacturer for creating it, but the Aurora Diamante is the most expensive writing instrument till date. There’s still an audience who takes pride in following the through line of art, and this Italian masterpiece targets such serious collectors. The pen features over 30 carats of diamonds, and is available in solid platinum or white gold versions. The pen has 18KT solid gold nib and a two-tone, rhodium-treated solid platinum barrel with an exquisite diamond cabochon crown that features nearly two thousand “4 C” certified De Beers diamonds on a two hectogram, which makes it a rare piece. The lucky buyers can further get it personalized with their coat-of-arms, signature or portrait. Apparently, only a single piece will be available for sale per year for around one million euros.

Ford Mustang Upholds Reputation 2010
When Ford unleashed the first Mustang, back in 1964, they had no idea that the new pony car would become an American icon. But it sure has, and in a big way. Young and old alike have an appreciation for the Ford Mustang, through every generation in which the car has been offered. Newly designed inside and out, the 2010 Ford Mustang is no different. This vehicle aims to please, and it does just that.
If you have been longing for a sporty car that won’t break the bank, the new Mustang will fill the bill. You can get into this car for about $21,000, featuring 210 horsepower, with a standard 4.0 liter V-6 engine. If you have the money to invest, there are options that can put you closer to the $28,000 range, for a Mustang GT or, for those with money to burn, a $46,000 option will give you all the speed you need in a 5.4L Supercharged V-8 Engine.
Your biggest decision will be choosing between the two body styles being offered, either a fastback or a convertible. Both start at around $26,000. No matter what you envision, there’s a color for every taste. Choose from torch red, sunset gold, or even kona blue metallic. The interiors have been redesigned and updated. Although nice, they could have been improved still more by using a little less plastic.
To keep down the expense of owning a sports car like this, it’s important to pay attention to your auto insurance rates. Sports car insurance rates tend to be higher and, if you are young or have tickets on your record, this could be something you can’t fit into your budget. Comparing cheap auto insurance companies is the most effective way to get a good deal on rates.
Gather several quotes for comparable coverage, compare what is offered with each company, and go with one you can best afford. But don’t get too comfortable; you should compare rates at least a couple of times per year to ensure you are getting the best deal. Many factors go into determining rates; even things like auto roadside assistance being included can make one company’s offer better than the others.
The 2010 Ford Mustang provides a nice ride and handles well. It also comes with some standard safety features that will help keep you safer and may even help keep your insurance rates down. Airbags, a tire-pressure monitoring system, tethers for child seats, and an SOS post-crash alert system all come standard, as does an anti-theft system.
If there is one thing that will keep Ford’s status from falling in the car world, it has to be the Mustang. It’s a car that has been pleasing people for 45 years and will continue to do so for many more.

Homes Of The Billionaires 2005
How does the other half live? Well, it depends. Try more like how does the other 0.00001% live?
According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the median American house size is slightly more than 2,000 square feet. Compare that with the domicile of the world's richest man: As might be expected from one with that sobriquet, Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) founder Bill Gates' house is more than 30 times the average size. The NAHB says that most houses have three bedrooms, one fireplace and are sided with vinyl or aluminum. Some billionaires' homes have more than a dozen bedrooms, and the only vinyl is in the rare-record collection housed in the custom-built listening room.
Yet as extravagant as some of their mansions may seem, the homes of the super-rich are not out of proportion to their wealth. In fact, comparatively, they can seem downright modest.
According to the National Association of Realtors, about one-fifth of a household's wealth is composed of home equity. Let's say that held true for Warren Buffett: The mastermind behind holding company Berkshire Hathaway (nyse: BRK.A - news - people ) is second on our list of the World's Richest People, with an estimated net worth of $44 billion. If he sank the average 20% into his home, the property would have to be worth...oh, approximately $8.8 billion--roughly the gross domestic product of Iceland.
Instead, Buffett lives more like a millionaire than a billionaire. For nearly 50 years, he's bedded down in the same Omaha house he bought for $31,500. Although far from elaborate, it is still more than adequate. In 2003, the local assessor pegged its value at nearly $700,000. Buffett disagreed--he thought it was worth closer to $500,000.
Buffett's not the only penny-wise homeowner on the list. Ingvar Kamprad, founder and former chief executive of home furnishings giant IKEA, is a notorious tightwad who drives a second-hand Volvo. His house in Lausanne, Switzerland, though hidden behind a high hedge, is said to be surprisingly unremarkable. He does indulge in winemaking at his small vineyard in Provence, but has been known to complain that it's an expensive hobby.
Like Gates, though, most billionaires are willing to lavish millions creating their own private Xanadus.
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Alsaud of Saudi Arabia has a 317-room palace in Riyadh, which reportedly cost $130 million to build. Totaling 400,000 square feet, it has a soccer field, eight elevators and more than 500 television sets. Then again, he has $23.7 billion in riches, including a longtime 3.9% stake in Citigroup (nyse: C - news - people ).
Lakshmi Mittal, the Indian steel tycoon who is the world's third-richest man, set a worldwide price record for a single-family home last year when he spent $128 million for his London townhouse. It's not just near a palace, it's outfitted like one. Even the swimming pool is said to be encrusted with gems.
And why not? Even if you don't need the mortgage-interest deduction on your income taxes, there are practical reasons to own a mega-mansion. If you want to pack some political punch, for example, you'd best be prepared to host some high-profile fundraisers. Hollywooder David Geffen, for example, boosted the campaign coffers of Bill Clinton and Al Gore with events at his Beverly Hills estate.
The GOP also has plenty of friendly fundraisers with big houses. In 2003, President George W. Bush visited cellular phone magnate Craig McCaw--and collected campaign money from deep-pocketed donors. The event also drew protestors to the wealthy enclave of Hunt's Point, Wash., but they probably didn't get too far. Not only do most billionaires' homes have lots of bedrooms and terrific views, they tend to come with the best security.
